For what it's worth, Sierra bricked my 2011 iMac. Initially the update installation simply failed, so after finally successfully rebooting I deleted the update file thinking it might be corrupt. I then re-downloaded and tried again. This time, my iMac would chime on power up and then promptly shut itself down again. So then I booted from an external drive and wiped my HD to do a clean Sierra installation. Failed again. I'm back on El Capitan now, and I assume I will be there forever or until they stop supporting it. It's a pity, as my 2011 iMac is a lovely and fast machine.
I kept getting Kernel panics on my mid-2011 imac in High Sierra. Google chrome update free download. The extended mac diagnostic reported '4MEM/9/40000000:0x8839f218', so I suppose one of the 4 RAM modules is failing - not sure how to. Download the latest Windows Support Software for your Mac. For the 2011 iMac, this software can be found at Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621. On my Mac, these files were downloaded to the /Downloads/BootCamp5 directory. To get the latest features and maintain the security, stability, compatibility and performance of your Mac, it's important to keep your software up to date. Apple recommends that you always use the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.

Check compatibility
If a macOS installer can't be used on your Mac, the installer will let you know. For example, it may state that your Mac doesn't have enough free storage space for the installation or that the installer is too old to be opened on this version of macOS.

Download macOS
Upgrade Imac 2011 To High Sierra 10.13
It takes time to download and install macOS, so make sure you're plugged into AC power and have a reliable Internet connection.

Install macOS
Follow the onscreen instructions in the installer. It may be easiest to start the installation in the evening so that it can be completed overnight, if needed.
If the installer asks for permission to install a helper tool, enter the administrator name and password that you use to log in to your Mac, then click Add Helper.
